Main Screen

PIECES TAKEN - opens screen showing pieces taken.
SAVE and LOAD - saves and loads all positions and stages of the game under a name of your choosing so that it can be resumed after the app has been closed and reopened.
CHESS OPENINGS - Brings up screen to choose one of thirty classic chess openings.
After choosing an opening you can see the moves by tapping the FORWARD button.
You can also use the BACK button and try your own variations during play.
LEARN MOVES - Brings up screen to learn how the pieces move.
This is for practice and allows you to choose which pieces to put on the board.
This screen has its own dedicated help button.

TURN BOARD - reverses black up, white down position of board each time the button is tapped.
COMPUTE MOVE - computer's suggestion for next move.
BACK and FORWARD - allow moves to be redone. Keep pressing the Back/Forward button until the required turn is reached."
INFO - when the Info checkbox is unchecked only essential and error messages will appear.

Main Screen
MOVES - tap on a piece to initiate a move. If it is a legal move the piece will be shown enlarged.
If the Moves checkbox is checked possible moves will be shown according to the following color key:
GREEN DOT - possible move. Complete the move by tapping an empty position to move the piece to.
RED DOT - possible capture. Complete the move by tapping the piece to be taken.
BLUE DOT - pawn can be queened. Complete the move by tapping the blue dot.
RESET GAME - set up new game position of pieces.
PLAY COMPUTER - play against the computer. Choose if computer plays white or black.
SETTINGS - tap to access the settings screen for changing the board colors. The color settings will automatically be loaded next time the app is opened.
CLOSE - saves last position and exits. The next time you open Learn Chess it will show this last position.

SETTINGS
When the board for 'Learn moves' opens the board will contain the same positions as the main board.
Tapping on a piece will remove it after which, if you tap on an empty square, it will be placed on that empty square.
Choose White pieces or Black pieces and tap a square to place it or remove it.
If you tap the same square successively the piece will cycle through being placed or removed. You can tap another square for further placements of the same piece.
Choose whether you want the round to begin with White's turn or Black's turn.
If the 'alt turns' option is checked then the app will expect alternate moves of white and black starting with your choice of 'White's turn' or 'Black's turn'.
If the 'alt turns' option is not checked then you will be able to move white or black pieces in any order.

Check the appropriate boxes if white and/or black kings have castled.
SEE MOVES - When tapped the button color changes to cyan and it becomes a 'Continue' button.
While in this mode tapping on a piece will show which squares it commands by marking them with a green dot.
Tap the piece again, or another piece to cancel the green dots of the first piece.
Tapping on the 'Continue' button will cause it to revert to the gray 'See moves' button.
CHECK STATUS - will notify if present configuration of pieces is in check, checkmate, capture or stalemate status.
CLEAR BOARD - clears board of all pieces."
CANCEL - aborts this learn moves screen and returns to previous board and game.
GO - Returns to Main screen with the configuration of pieces that you have set up.
